PBFD units responded to a 1st alarm fire at 17-19 Joliet Court on 2/23/26. This incident occurred as the Blizzard of 2026 was just wrapping up. Snow and wind hampered operations.
PBFD units responded to a 1st alarm at 2 Birmingham Court on 12/14/25. The fire was quickly controlled by PBFD and mutual aid units.
PBFD units responded to a 1st alarm fire at Phoenix Park Apartments on Long Hill Road on 11/26/25. The fire was quickly controlled by the PBFD, with assistance from mutual aid units.
PBFD units responded to a 1st alarm at 64-66 Midway Oval on 2/1/26. The fire was held to one side of the duplex by PBFD units.
PBFD units responded to a 1st alarm with reports of people trapped at 17 St. Joseph Court on 12/5/25. Searches were negative and the fire was knocked down by PBFD units, with assistance from mutual aid departments.
The PBFD responded to I-95 north bound 1/2 mile before exit 89 with the Old Mystic Fire Department, for an oil truck rollover. The incident involved an engine compartment fire and a spill of home heating oil. State of CT DEEP and DOT also assisted with the incident.
Units responded to an injured hiker at Bluff Point on 3/27/25. The hiker was removed by PBFD UTV.
PBFD units responded to a 3rd alarm in the City of Groton at 39 Broad Street Ext. on 10/11/25. A number of civilians were removed via the interior stairs, as well as via aerial ladder at this incident. The photo directly below is a 1st alarm in the City of Groton at 47 Riverview Avenue on 9/17/25. Groton City units were committed to another assignment and were delayed. PBFD and Submarine Base FD units arrived first due.
Groton Fire Officers' Association took part in a familiarization training at the Groton New - Londdon Airport on Monday September 29th. The training was lead by Dave Lucas, Airport Manager and Amamda Mele, Fire Captain, Bradley Airport FD; General Aviation Airports.
  • PBFD responded to a van fire on 7/25/25 on Woodland Drive West. The fire was quickly extinguished and there was no extension to the nearby home.
  • The PBFD received an American flag from the United States Navy at Submarine Base NLON's annual 9-11 Ceremony this year. Our department is honored and humbled by being selected.
Members of the PBFD and Submarine Base FD proudly came together to display the stars and stripes at a Mystic Schooners baseball game on July 7th at Fitch High School. The game was dedicated to members of the military and 1st responders.
  • The PBFD participated in Guest Storytime at Poquonnock Plains Park on 7/21/25. Children in attendance received a fire helmet and a first-hand look at PBFD apparatus. Guest Storytime, hosted by Children First Groton, is held throughout the summer and aims at strenghtening families, overall health and safety in Groton.
  • The PBFD responded automatic aid to 1341 North Road in Center Groton on 4/24/25 for a well involved occupied single family dwelling fire. Members operated the initial handline and eventually moved to master stream operations due to the volume of fire.
Members of Poquonnock Bridge, Center Groton, US Submarine Base, Old Mystic and Noank Fire Departments participated in a Groton Fire Officers' Association training event on June 30th at Claude Chester School. 40 firefighters from Groton attended and drilled on roof ventilation, forcible entry, hoseline stretches, search & rescue and scba confidence.
PBFD responded to a 2nd alarm in Ledyard at 225 Lambtown Road on May 13, 2025. Ladder 35 was the 1st due truck and performed ventilation on the original fire building.
  • On 5/4/25, the PBFD responded to a report of a structure fire in the area of 29 Central Avenue. A box+ assignment was dispatched and units arrived to find a fully involved shed. The fire was quickly extinguished and the fire did not extend to any exposures. The PBFD Fire Marhsals Office is investigating.
  • The PBFD conducted a water supply drill in one of the few non-hydrant areas of the district on Saturday April 26, 2025. We would like to thank the neighboring departments that came out to make the drill a success: City of Groton FD, Center Groton FD, Submarine Base FD, Gales Ferry FD, Ledyard Center FD and North Stonington FD. Groton Fire Alarm also participated, as the drill was conducted in near real-time based on established run cards.
